VEHICLES AND GETTING AROUND

GOLF CARTS

Golf cars at Pawley's follow SC State Law. They must be registered to an address on the island and not driven farther than two miles from there, so can't be used for transportation from Mace House to the beach.

BICYCLES

Bicycles can be rented from Pawley's Island Beach Service (843) 237-4666)--they pick up and deliver. Riding in the Waterford Heights neighborhood and on the island are both pleasant and easy, but no bike path currently runs from Waterford to the island, and US 17 is often jammed with cars driving very fast. In the future, the Waccamaw Neck Bikeway will run from Murrell's Inlet to the Georgetown bridge, but it is not yet complete. The sections that exist are great, especially at Huntington Beach State Park.

CARS

Mace House offers parking for up to four cars (one under the house and three in the parking area). We ask visitors to be careful not to block access to other houses, which happens if cars are left in the road. Parking on Pawley's is usually easy except on holidays and Sunday afternoons in the summer. There's a big lot with portajohns at the south end, and several smaller lots at the north.

BOATS

Kayaks can be taken down to the marsh from the house, but anything larger (john boats, etc.) will have to put in from a landing on the island and taken over to Mace House dock at higher tides. The channel out to the ocean is not deep except at full high tide.
