LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Of course you come to Pawley's to swim in the surf and walk on the beach, catch crabs, and float down the creek in an inner tube. But in cooler weather, or if you want a break, the area is full of delights.

At any time of year, you can enjoy championship-class golf courses, a wide variety of retail shops, including the Hammock Shop complex, and some excellent seafood restaurants. Historic Georgetown’s waterfront area is just 15 minutes away, with many historic houses, churches, and a museum of the rice culture. The area now identifies as The Hammock Coast.

Nature areas within 30 minutes include: Huntington Beach and Hampton Plantation State Parks, Baruch Wildlife Center at Hobcaw Barony, Yawkey Wildlife Center, South Island, Hopsewee Plantation and Brookgreen Gardens, known for its world-class gardens and sculpture exhibits.

You can find art, music, and theater events all year round.

A short drive of 30 to 60 minutes will take you to Murrell's Inlet's famous seafood restaurants, outlet shopping at Myrtle Beach, and historic Charleston. Easy trails for hiking are also nearby. Gardeners will want to visit the Brown's Ferry Daylily Gardens near Georgetown.
